Unitek maintains the most extensive inventory of MEC/UXO equipment on Guam including shielded excavation equipment and portable fragmentation man-shields for MEC/UXO operations.
Unitek is also Guam’s only MEC/UXO contractor licensed/permitted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) as a Manufacturer of High Explosives (ATF License/Permit 9-GU-010-20-4B-00014). This license allows Unitek to purchase, transport, manufacture and use commercial explosive for the destruction of found MEC/UXO on Guam.
Unitek serves as Guam’s leading firm for munitions, explosives of concern (MEC) and unexploded ordnance (UXO). Our Guam based staff of UXO Technicians including UXO Project Managers, SUXOS, UXO QC/Safety Officers and UXO Technicians enables us to provide the necessary support for MEC/UXO conditions in the Western Pacific.
Unitek also planned and conducted Digital Geophysical Mapping (DGM) to map magnetic anomalies under the ground surface to aid in the planning for MEC clearance activities. DGM uses the latest technologies in all-metal electromagnetic detection equipment linked to real time Global Positioning System equipment to create a high resolution map that can be linked directly to Geophysical Information System databases. The resultant map can be used by the MEC contractor, construction contractor and NavFac planning personnel to accurately identify anomalies in the construction site.
Unitek’s MEC/UXO Services include:
Digital Geophysical Mapping (DGM)
GPS Surveying and GIS Mapping
MEC/UXO Site Clearance

In 2010, Unitek was awarded a 5 year $50,000,000.00 U.S. Navy Contract N40192-10-D-0007, Munitions And Explosives of Concern (MEC) Multiple Award Contract (MAC), Various Locations Guam and the Pacific Ocean Area. This contract is for U.S. Navy compliance with the recent implemented Joint Region Marianas Explosive Safety Submittal (ESS). Implementation of the Guam ESS now requires that all military construction address MEC/UXO considerations.
